I Used to Think Letting Go Meant Giving Up
I used to hold on—tight. To people. To dreams. To control.
I thought if I let go, everything would fall apart. But in truth? It was me that was falling apart from the weight of holding on.
As a Reiki Master, I’ve learned something powerful: Peace doesn’t come from gripping. It comes from releasing.
What is Non-Attachment?
Non-attachment means showing up fully—with love, care, and presence—without needing to control the outcome. It’s not about being passive. It’s about being free.
From a Buddhist perspective, attachment is the root of suffering. We suffer not because life changes, but because we resist those changes. The tighter we cling, the more we hurt.
In Reiki, we are taught to trust the flow of life energy—to allow, not to force. That’s non-attachment in action.
The Reiki Connection to Letting Go
Reiki invites us to live by simple but profound principles:
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
These mantras are gentle nudges toward non-attachment.They remind us that our peace doesn’t lie in control. It lies in surrender. When I give Reiki, I don’t "make" healing happen. I hold space. I become a clear channel. I trust the flow.
Non-Attachment vs. Indifference: What’s the Difference?
Let’s be clear: Non-attachment is not the same as indifference.
Indifference says: “I don’t care.”
Non-attachment says: “I care deeply… but I release control.”
One disconnects you from life. The other connects you to life with peace and trust.
Non-attachment allows love, presence, and compassion—without the suffering that comes from clinging.
How You Can Practice Non-Attachment Today
Start simple.Ask yourself:
“What am I holding on to that’s making me suffer?”
Maybe it’s an expectation. A timeline. A relationship. A version of who you thought you should be.
Then…Breathe. Feel your body .Say gently: “Just for today, I choose to let go.”
Let Go and Trust the Flow
Whether you're a Reiki practitioner or someone on a healing journey, remember:You don’t have to control everything to be okay.
Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care.
It means you’re choosing
freedom over fear.
Peace over pressure.
Flow over force.
Because when you stop holding on so tightly—You open yourself to receive more than you ever imagined.
