Reiki Beyond the Self: Reflections on Healing Humanity

On August 24, 2025, I had the privilege of facilitating a group session during the 7th Philippine Reiki National Conference. This year’s theme, “One Light, One Heart,” invited us to explore how Reiki can extend beyond our individual practice and ripple outward into society and humanity.

Our group reflected on three simple but powerful questions:

  1. Have you joined Reiki healing directed to issues of society, country, or humanity?

  2. What was your experience?

  3. How do you think we can help in healing humanity?

Here are the key takeaways that stood out for me:

1. Healing flows in circles, not in lines

Participants shared their experiences of joining collective Reiki efforts—for the Pasig River, for mental health and emotional struggles, and even for clearing the negative effects of vaccinations. What struck me was the reciprocity of it all: when we send Reiki outward, it doesn’t just stop there—it flows back to us. Healing others also heals ourselves.

2. Small acts ripple outward

There was a strong recognition that “every little bit counts.” Offering Reiki meditation to women in faith communities, supporting families with neurodivergent children, or simply holding space for someone’s struggles—these seemingly small acts create ripples that go far beyond what we can see. Reiki reminds us that no effort is ever wasted.

3. Reiki thrives when integrated into real life

What inspired me most was how people are weaving Reiki into larger contexts. Some are aligning their practice with the Sustainable Development Goals, regenerative food systems, or Indigenous cultural initiatives. Others are bringing Reiki into professional spaces—supporting business leaders, families, and even working alongside doctors. Reiki doesn’t exist apart from the world’s challenges; it can walk with them.

4. Self-care fuels service

The group also emphasized the importance of replenishing our own energy. We cannot pour from an empty cup. By staying connected to our personal Reiki practice and aligning with our higher selves, we ensure that what we share comes from a place of wholeness, not depletion.

5. Collective healing brings hope

Finally, our circle reflected on the power of coming together. Healing humanity may sound like an impossible task, but when we join forces, we experience synergy and hope. Circles remind us that we’re not alone—and that shared intention amplifies the light we send into the world.

One Light, One Heart

Facilitating this session reminded me that Reiki is not only a practice for personal well-being—it’s also a collective path. Reiki beyond the self is about aligning with our higher purpose, building communities, and allowing the energy of love and healing to ripple into families, society, and even global movements.

In the end, perhaps this is what “One Light, One Heart” truly means: that by healing together, we step into the shared journey of healing humanity.
