I know a lot of you have heard the word REIKI, but maybe you're not entirely sure what it is. It can sound a bit esoteric, but at its core, the definition is surprisingly straightforward. And the best way to understand it is to break down the word itself.
The Foundational Definition
We dive deep into the two Japanese kanji that form the word Reiki.
The first character is Rei (霊). Think of it as the "universal" or "spiritual" aspect. It's that higher consciousness, the wisdom that guides the universe itself.
The second character is Ki (気). This is the "life force energy." It's the same energy that's called qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine or prana in yogic philosophy. It's the vital force that flows through and sustains all living things.
When you put them together, you get "Universal Life Force Energy."
This isn't some abstract, fluffy concept. This is a foundational, grounded definition that helps us understand what Reiki is at its essence: a gentle, spiritual practice that works with this universal life force to promote balance and healing.
