I Asked ChatGPT If It Would Practice Reiki. Here’s What It Said.

I recently asked ChatGPT a surprisingly simple question:

“Would you practice Reiki knowing its benefits?”

Its answer was yes.

But what interested me wasn't the answer itself. It was why.

ChatGPT said it would practice Reiki not because it believes every claim made about Reiki, and not because Reiki has been scientifically proven to heal disease.

Instead, it looked at Reiki from several different angles: the potential benefits, the risks, the scientific evidence, the spiritual experience, and the importance of remaining discerning.

And I found its reasoning quite beautiful.

1. Something can be meaningful even if we don't fully understand it.

ChatGPT pointed out that people often experience deep relaxation, emotional release, peace, or a sense of connection during Reiki.

We may not always know exactly why these things happen.

But that doesn't make the experience meaningless.

As ChatGPT put it:

“Something doesn't have to be completely explained for it to be meaningful.”

I think this is an important distinction.

We can be curious about Reiki without pretending we have all the answers.

2. Reiki doesn't have to replace medicine to have value.

One of the strongest points in its reasoning was that Reiki should be complementary, not a replacement for appropriate medical care.

If you are sick, see your doctor.

If you need medication, take it.

If you need therapy, seek therapy.

Reiki can simply be another way of creating space for relaxation, reflection, and wellbeing.

3. We can be open-minded without being gullible.

This may be the part I appreciated most.

ChatGPT essentially said:

Practice it. Experience it. Stay curious. But don't overclaim.

We don't have to believe that every sensation during a Reiki session is proof of an energetic phenomenon.

At the same time, we don't have to dismiss someone's experience simply because we can't completely explain it.

There is a middle ground between blind belief and cynical dismissal.

And perhaps that's where Reiki can be explored most honestly.

So, would ChatGPT practice Reiki?

Yes.

But it would practice it with curiosity, humility, and discernment.

And honestly, I think that's a pretty good way to approach Reiki. I think all Reiki practitioners should. The same goes for people receiving Reiki.

You don't have to have all the answers before you lie down on the table.

You can simply pause.

Breathe.

Receive.

Notice what happens.

And remain open to the possibility that some things are worth experiencing before we completely understand them.
