Why I Think Everyone Should Learn Reiki

We’ve normalized the idea that some life skills are just essential.
Financial literacy, for example. Most people agree that understanding money — how to save it, grow it, manage it — is important because it affects literally every part of your life.
But I think there’s another kind of literacy we don’t talk about enough:
Spiritual literacy.
Not in a religious way.Not in a “you need to become enlightened and meditate on a mountain” kind of way.
I mean understanding yourself.
Understanding your emotions. Your energy. Your nervous system. Your inner world.
And honestly? That’s why I think everyone should learn Reiki.
The funny thing is that Reiki has this reputation of being something mystical or exclusive. People think you need to be psychic, highly intuitive, or somehow “gifted” to practice it.
But that’s like saying you need to be Mozart to learn piano.
You don’t.
Some people naturally pick things up faster. Some people are more sensitive to energy at the beginning. But Reiki is ultimately a learnable skill. It’s a practice. A framework. A way of paying attention.
The same way anyone can learn music, anyone can learn Reiki.
And I think that changes everything.
Because imagine if people actually knew how to regulate themselves before they hit burnout.
Imagine if calming your nervous system was as normal as going to the gym.
Imagine if people knew how to sit with their emotions instead of constantly distracting themselves from them.
A lot of us go through life completely disconnected from our bodies. We live in our heads all day.
We scroll when we’re anxious. We overwork when we feel inadequate. We numb out when things get hard.
Reiki creates space to actually notice what’s happening internally.
Not fix.
Not force.
Just notice.
And weirdly, that alone can be incredibly healing.
One of the biggest things Reiki taught me is that healing isn’t always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it’s about removing the noise that’s stopping you from hearing yourself clearly.
That’s also why I think Reiki naturally leads people toward more compassion.
When you become more aware of your own pain, stress, fears, and patterns, you also start seeing how much other people are carrying too. It becomes harder to live entirely from judgment, ego, or division.
You start recognizing that beneath all the labels and identities, people are actually pretty similar. Everyone wants safety. Peace. Connection. Love.
And that sounds simple, but I genuinely think the world would look very different if more people experienced that kind of awareness regularly.
Not because Reiki magically solves all problems.
But because regulated people tend to create healthier relationships, healthier communities, and healthier lives.
To me, Reiki isn’t about becoming a “healer.”
It’s about becoming more connected to yourself.
It’s about realizing that your body has wisdom. That rest matters. That presence matters. That healing isn’t something reserved for a select few people with special gifts.
It’s something all of us can learn.
And honestly, I think the world would be better if we did.
